About the Exhibition
Her Place is a photography exhibition that explores how women and girls in Chennai claim space for themselves in public life — through joy, work, leisure, resistance, and everyday acts of agency. This exhibition is both a celebration and a conversation — about who belongs in the city, and what it takes for women to truly feel free and at ease in public spaces.
Role Overview
We are looking for warm, curious, and socially engaged individuals to join us as Exhibition Volunteers/Mediators. As a volunteer, you will be the face of the exhibition for visitors — helping them engage with the stories behind the photographs, facilitating conversations, and ensuring that the space remains welcoming and inclusive for all.
This is not a security or passive watch-keeping role — it’s about holding space, listening, and gently inviting reflection and dialogue.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome visitors and offer a brief introduction to the exhibition and its themes
- Engage in meaningful conversations with visitors, helping them connect personally with the photographs and the questions the exhibition raises
- Answer questions about the exhibition’s purpose, contributors, and production
- Support visitors in reflecting on their own experiences of gender and public space
- Ensure the space is respectful, inclusive, and accessible at all times
- Gather feedback, responses, and stories from visitors
- Assist with basic coordination or setup tasks, if needed
We’re Looking For
- Friendly, respectful and open-minded individuals with strong communication and listening skills
- People who care about gender justice, public space, and storytelling
- Fluency in Tamil is essential; knowledge of English is an added plus
- Prior experience in facilitation, education, community work, or the arts is welcome, but not necessary
- Age 18+
